At Suood & Anwar LLP, we believe in the importance of legal literacy. Since its inception, we have been dedicated to strengthening the Maldivian legal system and engaging with the community, whether it be through the publication of law-related academic literature, conducting legal education seminars or pro bono work on behalf of those in need. This is why we founded the Maldives Law Institute (MLI) in 2004, as a nonprofit, non-governmental organization, to ensure greater commitment to, and more importantly, continuity of our work.

Over the years, MLI has hosted “Legal Bites” seminars within Male’ as an avenue through which the general public can become versed in and engage with topical legal issues. We have also published a number of books, including the “Maldivian Legal System”, the first of its kind, which provides a comprehensive overview of our legal system. The MLI is also the publisher of the Maldives’ only peer reviewed quarterly legal periodical, the Maldives Law Review (MLR). Our most recent project has involved conducting regular Practical Legal Training (PLT) seminars in various atolls within the Maldives, in partnership with the United Nations Development Program.

Our vision is of a nation where all Maldivians can easily access, understand and engage with their legal system. We hope our continued efforts will make this vision a reality.
